visit the webcamXP download page to grab the latest beta version...

updated on 11/07/07 to webcamXP 4.0.270 beta

2 very important fixes have been implemented :
- fixed required rights for the software to run under Vista with UAC enabled.
- fixed software might freeze while disconnect a source streaming in windows media.
- fixed memory leak when using ip cam directshow filter + windows media streaming without audio

the filters have also been updates (v2.70) as a part of the fix was done in them. the cpu usage of the filter in WM is about 5 times lower than any earlier version and the streaming is way more fluent :)

back with yet another webcamXP update :)

i have released webcamXP 3.96.220 beta which includes several improvements mainly with ip cameras support. there are now about 220 ip cameras templates with the software. the list can be found on the webcamXP website.

the ip camera filters have also been updated, i've fixed a problem in the capture pin declaration which makes them now compatible with directshow.NET applications.

updating to v3.97.417 on 23/06/2007

this version includes two new specialities :
- inactivity shutdown : pauses the directshow sources after some inactivity (like the stream from ip in the previous versions) in order to reduce CPU usage...
- security center : enables a security windows which allows to preview 9 sources at time for security purposes...

the directshow filters have also been updated in order to handle correctly the fact of being pauses/stopped and restarted quite often. i hope that the webcam drivers that you'll test with are also designed to handle that correctly and it should result in much lower CPU usage if there isn't always somebody watching at your sources...

updating to v3.97.760 on 25/06/2007

i have been able to fix several issues and to continue implementing the new security center feature. here is a screenshot of how it looks :

as it was requested by several users i have also updated the motion detector so it groups pixels to avoid detecting noise too easily, this is now changed in the latest beta version :

webcamXP 4 is approaching and it already provides some ideas of the changes you'll see in that version :)

updating to v3.98.412 beta on 28/06/2007

brand new update, here are the changes...

webcamXP :
- fixed motion detector so it keeps monitoring while a movie is recording (and stops recording when no motion anymore)
- improved and optimized security center
- fixed several floating windows issues
- improved preview quality

directshow filters :
- fixed the remaining exceptions (in debug mode).
- improved speed
- added option to display system time / network status

updating to v3.98.775 beta on 30/06/2007

again a new improved version before the official release of webcamxp 4, here are the changes :

- new advanced motion detection algorythm (see screenshot)
- ability to use ip cameras without the directshow filter (like old versions)

updating to v3.99.150 beta on 03/07/2007

the software is still evolving and again a few changes :
- handling of network sources is faster, there is an indicator (white fading to black) to let you know when the communication is going to be paused. (for both modes with and without directshow)
- security center supports up to 16 simultaneous cameras preview per screen.
- motion detector has been improved

i have modified the latest webcamXP beta so it can fully support the new mpeg4 directshow filter.

downoad webcamXP 3.93.335 beta which is ready for supporting mpeg4 ip cameras.

if you want to create your own templates you can modify the file "linksys wvc54g.wxp" using notepad and use as basis.

the both filters have also been upgraded and included with this beta version.

after keeping the hard work around my recently developped directshow filter, i've continued this way and i'm happy to provide something that some users are waiting for long. there is now a second directshow filter to play with :

- IP Camera [JPEG / MJPEG]
- IP Camera [MPEG4]

it's still under early development however it begins to work like it should. for my tests i only had a linksys WVC54GC kindly shared by a customer named David. the famous model that should provide mjpeg and never does and instead provide a crazy kind of totally unstandard MPEG4. the MP4 source filter i have created is using external decoder such as libavcodec or XVID to do the lowlevel decompression.

due to the proprietary modifications to the official MPEG4 by linksys. currently only XVID can decode some parts of the provided stream and many erreoneous parts are displayed.

anyway the filter i have developped is extremely flexible as you can use any existing MPEG4 decoder (to be tested) and you can force the output FourCC (MP4S, MPG4, H264, AVC1, ...) to render.

even if the linksys cams are still hardly usable i believe that it should work with MPEG4 cameras providing more standard streams.

now i need you either to test the filter with other MPEG4 cameras and other MPEG4 decompression libraries (using graphedit might be preferable than using webcamXP for testing purposes) or to give me access to your MPEG4 cameras online (ip address and login informations) so i can check and improve any further.

download now the directshow filter package which contains both MJPEG and MPEG4 filters.

17/06/2007 update
just another note for linksys WVC54G, it's still experimental to use the mpeg4 filter because it's a strange combination of asf and mp4s stream. anyway it's working in webcamXP 3.92 by using the "stream from asf..." mode.

all you have to do is to type the url to the camera stream http://your.camera.ip/img/video.asf under the asf stream path however it also requires the use of the external XVID decoder, you have to do the following, install ffdshow, then configure it, the "Other MPEG4" format must be enabled (under codecs) and you have to select XVID as default decompressor (the default value is libavcodec which doesn't work with that camera).
